    By Jim Fusco:

Welcome, welcome to another video in the Laptop Sessions music video blog series!

Tonight, I bring you my 99th video- yes, my 99th video! It’s from yet another band we haven’t done yet: Badfinger!

This song was one of their first singles, written by Paul McCartney while he was still with the Beatles. A version exists of McCartney playing and singing this song himself on the Beatles Anthology Volume 3. Honestly, it sounds exactly the same. That, for me, lets me know why there were so many rumors that Badfinger was just the Beatles in disguise. Of course, that’s not the case. Badfinger’s members actually have a very sad biography- if you ever get a chance to read about it, I think it would be worth your while.

There are many songs from Badfinger that I’d love to do in the future, including “Day After Day”, “Baby Blue”, and “No Matter What”. Those are all great songs and really showed that this group wasn’t just a Beatles spin-off bunch, but a real musical force and a darn-good band.

Come back tomorrow for another Laptop Session from Chris and come back on Thursday for my big 100th video!

Badfinger Acoustic Rock Cover Songs and Free mp3 Downloads

Considered by many to be the original innovators of the power pop movement of the late sixties, Badfinger is probably best known, in terms of songwriting, for their hit new rock music tracks “Day After Day” and “Come And Get It.” Other popular new music of the time included such hits as “No Matter What.” All three of these songs, among others, are used as cover songs by bands such as the Masters of the Universe in live and unplugged settings. The early story of Badfinger is one of new music songwriting success, making early ties with that famous team of John, Paul, George, and Ringo. The Fab Four were closely tied to the band’s work and sound early on in Badfinger’s career, of course helping the younger band to gain fame and success. Songwriter Paul McCartney in particular was noted for having approved of the band’s new music and sound. The success of their songwriting came at a price, however, Unfortunately, due to arguments over legal rights and recording royalty revenue, not one but two songwriters and lead members of the band committed suicide, Pete Ham by hanging and Tom Evans also by hanging. Over the years, Badfinger disbanded and reunited in many different configurations, but music reviews seem to agree that they were at their best with the original members who hit it big with the aforementioned songs. The Laptop Sessions video blog has only begun to record acoustic cover songs based on their material and the songwriters who contribute to the unplugged music video series look forward to digging even deeper into the Badfinger catalog.
