    “1 Corinthians 15:55″
    Johnny Cash

    A
Oh, death, where is thy sting?
    E                                           A
Oh, grave, where is thy victory?
    A                                        D
Oh, life, you are a shining path, and
    D                                      A
hope springs eternal just over the rise when I
    E                                              A
    see my Redeemer beckoning me.

    A
Oh, row my ship over the waves of your sea; let me
    E                                     A
find a safe port now and then.
    A       D                                   A
Don’t let the dark one in your sanctuary
    B                                  E
until it’s time to pack it in.

Oh, row, row my ship with the fire of your breath
and don’t lay a broadside on your ship as yet.
Blow, ye warm winds when it’s chilly and wet,
and don’t come too soon for collecting my debt.

Oh, death, where is thy sting?
Oh, grave, where is thy victory?
Oh, life, you are a shining path,
and hope springs eternal just over the rise when I
    see my Redeemer beckoning me.

Oh, let me sail on with my ships to the east
and keep my eye on the North Star.
When the journey is no good for man or for beast,
I’ll be safe wherever you are.

Just let me sail in to your harbor of lights
and there, and forever, to cast out my line.
Give me my task and let me do it right,
and do it with all of my might.

Oh, death, where is thy sting?
Oh, grave, where is thy victory?
Oh, life, you are a shining path,
and hope springs eternal just over the rise when I
    see my Redeemer beckoning me.

  • “Tomorrow Never Knows” (Bruce Springsteen acoustic cover song) – The Guest Sessions

    Saturday, March 6th, 2010

    By Federico Borluzzi:

Acoustic cover of “Tomorrow Never Knows,” from Bruce Springsteen’s Working On A Dream album (2009).

    ** EDITOR’S NOTE: **

Tonight, I’m happy to add another cover song from Federico. This time around, he’s picked a beautiful little gem from Bruce Springsteen’s latest album. “Tomorrow Never Knows” may conjure memories of the classic Beatles tune of the same name, but it’s an entirely different track, believe me. If you’ve heard the original, then you know that this is an excellent choice for an acoustic cover song.

We hope you enjoy Federico’s Guest Session — leave comments, submit a session of your own (click on “The Guest Sessions in the weekly calendar above), or simply kick back and listen!

    Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

    By Jim Fusco:

Welcome back again for another edition of “Ask the Musician” with me, Jim Fusco!  Tonight, I answer Meagan’s question, who posted on my cover song music video of “Shine” by Trey Anastasio.  Meaghan left a cool message here on the blog, so I had to type out the chords to this great tune for her.

    “Shine”

    Trey Anastasio

    Intro: C         Dsus2        A

    A                            Em
You know, all of you know
    D                        A
    To grow, what to feel
    A                     Em
    And so, follow me low
    D                      A
You are what you lean on
    A                            Em

    D                A
    And drift, into water

    E               D
    Ooooooohh
    A                                   G
    And the light shines on
    D           A
    While we all ride on
    A                         G
When the days come and gone
    D                A
You know we all ride on

    Post-chorus:        C              Dsus2            A

    Lines thicker than ground

    To soar over and down
To bend and to breathe on

    CHORUS

    C              Dsus2
    Through water when
    C            Dsus2
    We are falling
    C                                Dsus2
The sounds of bells are ringing out
    A
    We’ll ride on

    C             Dsus2

    The blue lighting

    E               D
    Ooooooohh

Chords / How to Play Songs

Many amateur musicians say to themselves, “I own an acoustic guitar, but I’m not sure how to play my favorite new music.” They may visit a video blog to try to figure out the chords, or they may go in search of the acoustic tabs. Regardless of the approach, there is a proliferation of chords sites that are incorrectly transcribed as often as not. This can be frustrating. Thus, the songwriters of the Laptop Sessions have established a “Chords / How to Play…” section on their website devoted to providing accurate chords/tabs for cover songs and new music. These are “How to…” articles written by young artists who know how to write a song and love to listen to new music – whenever possible, they are trying to share the chords and tabs that they have developed for their favorite music. The best cover songs are the ones that are played as faithfully to the originals, at least in terms of chords, and the boys of the Laptop Sessions hope to aid fellow musicians to play their own cover songs.
