    (Capo I)

    Intro:   E    F#m7    E    F#m7    E

    E
Once I thought the world was crazy,
    F#m7
    Everyone was sad and chasing
    Happiness and love and
I was the only one above it.

Once I thought, without a doubt,
I had it all figured out.
    Universe with hands unseen;
    I was cold as gasoline.

    E      G               F#m7
    Took too long to see
    F#m7   C               F#m7              E              F#m7    E    F#m7    E
I was   wrong to believe in me only…

Once my life was a game so unfair
It beat me down and kept me there.
    Unaware of my naysaying,
    F#m7                                              E
Solitaire was all I was playing.

    INSTRUMENTAL:   G    F#m7    C    F#m7  (x3)

    Took too long to see
I was wrong to believe in me only…

  • “Society” by Jerry Hannan (Covered by Eddie Vedder for the Into the Wild Soundtrack) - Chords, Tabs, & How to Play

    Monday, June 8th, 2009

    “Society”
Jerry Hannan (Covered by Eddie Vedder for the Into the Wild soundtrack)

    INTRO: Am (hum over chord)

    C       G              C
    It’s a mystery to me;
    We have a greed
    C      F                       G
    With which we have agreed.

    G           F
And you think you have to
    G                           Am
    Want more than you need;
    F                         G
    Until you have it all,
    G                 Am
    You won’t be free…

    Am    F
    Society,
    F                     C
    You’re a crazy breed.
    C                         G
    I hope you’re not lonely
    G          Am
    Without me.

When you want more than you have,
    You think you need.
And when you think more than you want,
    Your thoughts begin to bleed.

I think I need to find a bigger place,
    Cause when you have
    More than you think,
    You need more space…

    Society,
    You’re a crazy breed.
    I hope you’re not lonely
    Without me.

    Society,
    Crazy indeed;
    Hope you’re not lonely
    Without me.

INSTRUMENTAL:  Over verse and chorus chords

    There’s those thinking more less,
    Less is more.
    But if less is more,
    How you keepin’ score?

Means for every point you make,
    Your level drops,
Kinda like you’re startin’ from the top,
    And you can’t do that…

    Society,
    You’re a crazy breed.
    I hope you’re not lonely
    Without me.

    Society,
    Crazy indeed;
    Hope you’re not lonely
    Without me.

    Society,
    Have mercy on me;
    Hope you’re not angry
    If I disagree.

    Society,
    Crazy indeed;
    Hope you’re not lonely
    Without me.

    “I Am Mine”
    Pearl Jam

    Intro:  D - F - C - G (x4)

    D…   D          F             C               G
The selfish, they’re all standing in line
Faithing and hoping to buy themselves time.
Me, I figure as each breath goes by,
    F       G         D
    I only own my mind.

The north is to south what the clock is to time.
There’s east and there’s west and there’s everywhere life.
I know I was born, and I know that I’ll die,
    The in between is mine.
    F G   D
    I am mine…

    D          G             Am            D
And the feeling, it gets left behind.
All the innocence lost at one time.
    Significant, behind the eyes,
    D                    Cadd9
    There’s no need to hide…
    Cadd9           D
    We’re safe tonight.

    [D - F - C - G (x2)]

The ocean is full cause everyone’s crying.
The full moon is looking for friends at hightide.
The sorrow grows bigger when the sorrow’s denied.
    I only know my mind.
    I am mine…

And the feeling, it gets left behind.
All the innocence lost at one time.
    Significant, behind the eyes,
    There’s no need to hide…
    We’re safe tonight.

    SOLO:
    D - F - C - G (repeat)
    D…

And the meaning, it gets left behind.
All the innocence broken with lies.
    Significance, between the lines.
    (We may need to hide)…

And the meanings that get left behind.
All the innocents lost at one time.
We’re all different behind the eyes…
    There’s no need to hide.

    Outro:
    G - Am - D (x3)
    G - Am

    “Peacemaker”
    Green Day

    Bm
    Well, I’ve got a fever,
    A non-believer.
I’m in a state of grace,
    For I am the caesar.
    Bm                           F#
    I’m gonna seize the day.
Well, call of the banshee…  Hey, hey.
    (Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey)
    As God as my witness,
    F#                                Bm
    The infidels are gonna pay.

    Well, call the assassin
    The orgasm,
A spasm of love and hate
    For what will divide us?
    The righteous and the meek…
Well, call of the wild… Hey, hey.
    (Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey)
    Death to the girl
At the end of the serenade.

    F#
    Vendetta, sweet vendetta,
    F#     Bm
    This beretta of the night,
    Bm  Em                  Bm
    This fire and the desire.
    F#                                               Bm
Shots ringing out on a holy parasite.

    I’m a killjoy from Detroit
I drink from a well of rage.
    I feed off the weakness
    With all my love.
Call up the captain… Hey, hey.
    (Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey)
Death to the lover that you were
    Dreaming of.

    This is a standoff,
A molotov cocktail is on the house.
    You thought I was a write off;
    You better think again.
    Call the peacemaker… Hey, hey.
    (Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey)
I’m gonna send you back to the place
    Where it all began.

    Vendetta, sweet vendetta,
    This beretta of the night,
    This fire and the desire.
Shots ringing out on a holy parasite.

    Instrumental:  Bm - F# - Bm - F#  Bm   Em   Bm   F#   Bm

    Well, now the caretaker’s
    The undertaker.
    Now, I’m gonna go out
    And get the peacemaker.
    This is the neo
    St. Valentine’s Massacre.
Well, call up the Gaza… Hey, hey.
    (Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey)

    Death to the ones
At the end of the serenade. (x4)

Chords / How to Play Songs

Many amateur musicians say to themselves, “I own an acoustic guitar, but I’m not sure how to play my favorite new music.” They may visit a video blog to try to figure out the chords, or they may go in search of the acoustic tabs. Regardless of the approach, there is a proliferation of chords sites that are incorrectly transcribed as often as not. This can be frustrating. Thus, the songwriters of the Laptop Sessions have established a “Chords / How to Play…” section on their website devoted to providing accurate chords/tabs for cover songs and new music. These are “How to…” articles written by young artists who know how to write a song and love to listen to new music – whenever possible, they are trying to share the chords and tabs that they have developed for their favorite music. The best cover songs are the ones that are played as faithfully to the originals, at least in terms of chords, and the boys of the Laptop Sessions hope to aid fellow musicians to play their own cover songs.
