“Younger Generation”
The Lovin’ Spoonful

Cmaj7                                                   Dm7
Why must every generation think their folks are square?
Dm7     G7                                                            Cmaj7
And no matter where their heads are, they know Mom’s ain’t there…
‘Cause I swore when I was small that I’d remember when
I knew what’s wrong with them that I was smaller then.

Cmaj7                                          Dm7
Determined to remember all the cardinal rules,
Dm7  G7                                                 Cmaj7
Like sun showers are legal grounds for cutting school.
Cmaj7                                       Dm7
I know I have forgotten maybe one or two,
Dm7                       G7                Cmaj7
And I hope that I recall them all before the baby’s due
Dm7                              G7              Cmaj7
And I know he’ll have a question or two.

Cmaj7   F      G            C                 Am
Like,    “Hey, Pop, can I go ride my zoom?
Am      F                   G7                     C                     Am
It goes two hundred miles an hour suspended on balloons.
Am   F               G                    C                       Am
And can I put a droplet of this new stuff on my tongue,
Am    Dm                                                 D7
And imagine frothing dragons while you sit and wreck your lungs?”
C                                            Am                                                G
And I must be permissive, understanding of the younger generation

Cmaj7                                                 Dm7
Then I’ll know that all I’ve learned my kid assumes,
Dm7  G7                                             Cmaj7
And   all my deepest worries must be his cartoons.
Cmaj7                                       Dm7
And still I’ll try to tell him all the things I’ve done
Dm7                   G7                     Cmaj7
Related to what he can do when he becomes a man,
Dm7                           G7                Cmaj7
And still he’ll stick his fingers in the fan.

And, “Hey, Pop, my girlfriend’s only three.
She’s got her own videophone and she’s taking L.S.D.,
And now that we’re best friends she wants to give a bit to me.
But what’s the matter, Daddy?  How come you’re turning green?
F                                                           G
Can it be that you can’t live up to your dreams?

“Only Wanna Be With You” (Hootie & the Blowfish Cover, Lyrics, & Chords!)

By Chris Moore:

Welcome to today’s edition of the Laptop Sessions! I am proud to bring you “Only Wanna Be With You,” a song from an artist we haven’t covered yet, although we’ve played it many times in concert- Hootie and the Blowfish, starring Darius Rucker. In our MoU live shows, Mike and I shared the lead, and in our recent “Laptop Sessions Live” concert, Jim and I made it our own. Now, all we need is for Jeff to take a turn…

“Only Wanna Be With You” is a great 90’s tune that I’ve loved for a long time for several reasons. Aside from being catchy and acoustic-based, it includes the line “Ain’t Bobby so cool?…” — meaning, of course, Bob Dylan. The lyrics directly quote “Idiot Wind,” a 1970’s Dylan song that I hope to record soon, AND “Tangled Up in Blue,” another Blood On the Tracks alum that I have already recorded. Needless to say, it was a lot of fun to play! Plus, this song was just begging for an acoustic cover version of it, don’t you think?

I hope you’ll rate and/or comment once you’ve watched tonight’s acoustic cover song music video of “Only Wanna Be With You” by Hootie and the Blowfish, and don’t forget to check back tomorrow for an all-new Original Wednesday installment from Jeff at http://laptopsessions.com, where he’ll play a great original song on his trusty acoustic guitar.

See you next session!

CHORDS:
Only Wanna Be With You
Hootie & the Blowfish
Capo 2:

E	Asus2 E Asus2

You and me, we come from different worlds,
You like to laugh at me when I look at other girls.

Sometimes you’re crazy, and you wonder why
I’m such a baby, ‘cause the dolphins make me cry
               B Asus2 E Asus2
Well, there’s nothing I can do; I’ve been looking for a girl like you.
You look at me, you’ve got nothing left to say,
I’ll only pout at you until I get my way.

I won’t dance, you won’t sing,
I just want to love you but you want to wear my ring.

Well there’s nothing I can do… I only wanna be with you.
You can call me your fool… Only wanna be with you.

Put on a little Dylan, sitting on a fence
I say that line is great, you ask me what I meant by

Said I shot a man named Gray, took his wife to Italy
She inherited a million bucks, and when she died it came to me

I cant help it if I’m lucky… Only wanna be with you.
Ain’t Bobby so cool… Only wanna be with you

(Solo)

Yeah I’m tangled up in blue… Only wanna be with you.
You can call me your fool… Only wanna be with you.
Sometimes I wonder if it will ever end

You get so mad at me when I go out with my friends
Sometimes you’re crazy, and you wonder why
I’m such a baby yeah, the dolphins make me cry…

Well there’s nothing I can do… Only wanna be with you.
You can call me your fool… Only wanna be with you.
Yeah I’m tangled up in blue… Only wanna be with you.

“Just Breathe”
Pearl Jam

C                                                                G
Yes I understand that every life must end, aw huh…
As we sit alone, I know someday we must go, aw huh…
I’m a lucky man to count on both hands the ones I love…
Some folks just have one, others they got none, aw huh…

Am
Stay with me…
F
Let’s just breathe.

Practiced are my sins, never gonna let me win, aw huh…
Under everything, just another human being, aw huh…
Yeh, I don’t wanna hurt, there’s so much in this world to make me bleed.

Stay with me…
You’re all I see.

G                     Dm
Did I say that I need you?
G                     Dm
Did I say that I want you?
F                           Am
Oh, if I didn’t I’m a fool you see…
F                                             G
No one knows this more than me.
G
As I come clean.

I wonder everyday as I look upon your face, aw huh…
Everything you gave and nothing you would take, aw huh…

Nothing you would take…
Everything you gave.

Did I say that I need you?
Oh, did I say that I want you?
Oh, if I didn’t now I’m a fool you see…
No one knows this more than me.
As I come clean.

(Fingerpicking over verse chords)

Am
Nothing you would take…
F
Everything you gave.
Hold me till I die…
Meet you on the other side.

“The End” by Pearl Jam – Chords, Tabs, & How to Play

“The End”
Pearl Jam

F#                            C#
What were all those dreams we shared
C#       Ebm              F#
Those many years ago?
What were all those plans we made
Now left beside the road?
F#   B                    F#
Be – hind us in the road.

More than friends I always pledged
Cause friends they come and go
People change as does everything
I wanted to grow old
Just want to grow old

F#          B         F#
Slide on next to me
F#  B                    Ab
I’m  just a human being
B                   Ebm
I will take the blame
Ebm           C#
But just the same
C#             B
This is not me
You see
Believe
B                     F#
I’m better than this

F#     B                  F#
Don’t leave me so cold
F#   B                            Ab
Or   buried beneath the stones
B                   Ebm
I just want to hold on
Ebm  C#                            B
And   know I’m worth your love
Enough
I don’t think
B                                      F#
There’s such a thing…

It’s my fault, now I been caught
A sickness in my bones
How it pains to leave you here
With the kids on your own
Just don’t let me go

Help me see myself
Cause I can no longer tell
Looking out from the inside of
The bottom of a well
It’s hell
I yell
But no one hears

Before I disappear
Whisper in my ear
Give me something to echo
In my unknown future’s ear

My dear
The end
Comes near
I’m here
But not much longer
