  • The Laptop Sessions: “I Can’t Tell You Why” (The Eagles Acoustic Rock Cover Song)

    Saturday, June 28th, 2008

    By Jeff Copperthite:

Good afternoon to you! Thank you for checking out today’s Laptop Session. I really am looking forward to your watching this session, as it is my third Eagles acoustic cover video. Today I bring you the awesome ballad “I Can’t Tell You Why” from their album “The Long Run”.

This song is among the few that are sung by bassist Timothy Schmit. His voice is very sweet and appropriate for this song. I feel I did a great job emulating his singing style, and I hope you agree. The guitar part I play is an adaptation of the synthesizer that is constant in the song.

Also, if you are wondering why i’m dressed up, it is because I went to a wedding today (and am going to a reception in a little while). I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Lisa & Tom Kapitan on their wedding today.

Thank you again for checking out today’s session. Your weekend has just started, and I know you will come back tomorrow to see what Jim has in store for us all. Until then…

  • The Laptop Sessions: “One of These Nights” (The Eagles Acoustic Rock Cover Song)

    Monday, May 26th, 2008

    By Jeff Copperthite:

Good evening and Happy Memorial Day. I hope you had a glorious holiday and got to enjoy a parade, a hamburger, and perhaps a game of horseshoes. Well, at least I did.

Today we get to continue “Title Track” week with another song by The Eagles. It’s great, because I don’t have to tell you the album and song title - I get to tell you both when I type “One of These Nights”!

This is a great tune that is somewhat tricky to capture on acoustic guitar. I decided to do a slightly off-beat strum pattern for this song. I tried to do more takes with me singing the chorus at the higher octave, but I failed miserably. My voice just wasn’t ready to maintain that, so this take has me singing the chorus in a normal range. I also improvised a little at the end. After all, every live version of this song that i’ve heard has something different at the end too. Also, since the song fades out on the recording, I decided to end the song…well, watch to the end to find out!

Jim will be here tomorrow for his first installment for “Title Track” week. Thank you for visiting The Laptop Sessions and I hope you enjoyed this acoustic cover.

  • The Laptop Sessions: “Best Of My Love” (Eagles Acoustic Rock Cover Song)

    Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

    By Jeff Copperthite:

Good evening to everyone out there! It’s Jeff bringing you today’s edition of The Laptop Sessions, and our third addition to #1 week here. I bring you a new band, and another hit #1 song.

Today’s band is The Eagles, among the kings of classic rock, and their #1 hit from “On the Border” - “Best Of My Love” is today’s song. I have always enjoyed The Eagles since my father introduced them to me when I was a kid. You will see more sessions from them in the future.

I always have liked this song, as have many others. The strumming is very catchy, and the story it tells of relationships is a good one as well.

Remember to come back tomorrow for Jim’s installment of Original Wednesday, and then on Thursday for another great #1 pick from Chris Moore’s library. Thank you for visiting laptopsessions.com!

Eagles Acoustic Cover Songs

Easily one of the greatest rock acts of all time, and spanning nearly 36 years (with 14 years off in between) is The Eagles. Incorporating all elements of classic rock, electric rock, and acoustic rock, the band has seen success pretty much throughout its lifespan – before, during, and after their widely covered breakup. Most of their discography was created between 1971 and 1980, before their breakup. However, when they reunited in 1994 for their “Hell Freezes Over” tour (aptly titled), they sold out nearly every show they planned on their tour. Even today they still have it. Jeff has covered them twice, but admits “Don Henley has such an incredible voice. I’m always afraid of covering artists like The Eagles because of their popularity. However, that popularity helps to get us known as the video blog to find great acoustic covers. So despite my own inhibitions, it has to be done”. Jeff also mentioned “I wouldn’t like this band as much as I do if it wasn’t for my father William Copperthite. I remember him putting all their tapes in the truck when we went on long trips.” Jeff will certainly be contributing more new videos from The Eagles in the near future.
