  • The Laptop Sessions: “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You” (The Monkees Acoustic Rock Cover Song)

    Friday, March 28th, 2008

    By Jim Fusco:

Welcome to your Friday edition of the Laptop Sessions with me, Jim Fusco!

Today, I’m doing a great tune written by Neil Diamond, but performed by the Monkees, “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You”. Not only does this song have a great message (like “it’s not all my fault, but SOME of it is”), but has a catchy tune and chord progression.

Actually, it’s that classic 3-chord Neil Diamond style, just shifted up a few frets on a capo.

I hope you like my whistling solo in the middle there! :-)

BIG things are happening at Fusco-Moore Productions and I hope you’ll visit the blog (and our newly completed other suite of websites) today!

  • The Laptop Sessions: “Delirious Love” (Neil Diamond Acoustic Rock Cover Song)

    Sunday, March 9th, 2008

    By Jeff Copperthite:

Welcome to your Stupendous Sunday edition of The Laptop Sessions! Today I bring you yet another song that I know because it is a part of Jim’s collection. It also is really one of few songs that I know from Neil Diamond.

Today also marks my 30th Laptop Session!

Off of his album “Twelve Songs” (which there are actually thirteen on the album!) , he re-recorded a song he wrote already called “Delirious Love”, and he was heavily assisted in the production by Brian Wilson himself. The only part of the vocals I did were Brian’s backing to the bridge. The recorded version is so catchy, so I tried my best to make this session be just as catchy.

Oddly enough, my voice isn’t that bad for Neil’s style.

And even though there are really only three chords, what a great song. I hope you enjoy this session!

Neil Diamond Acoustic Cover Songs

Neil Diamond is one of those music artists that has had an extensive career, one full of ups and downs both for him and for his fans. His new music has varied in styles, and his songwriting has been both weak and strong. He has recorded cover songs and has given his music to other bands to use as covers – notably, songs like the Monkees’ versions of “I’m a Believer” and “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You.” Both of these songs, the recordings of which were released by the Monkees before Diamond could release his own, catapulted the young songwriter to fame for his new music. The success of these songs no doubt helped his own career and made others want to listen to new music from him. In 2008, Diamond released an acoustic guitar music album, using Rick Rubin as producer for his stripped-down, unplugged sessions. The album, Home Before Dark, which reached number one on both the US and UK charts, showcased a man who knew how to write a song – and had, in fact, written many of them – going back to the basics. The recording sessions included such able players as Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, both of the band the Heartbreakers.
