  • The Laptop Sessions: “Disarm” (Smashing Pumpkins Acoustic Rock Cover Song)

    Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

    By Jeff Copperthite:

Welcome to your Super Saturday edition of the Laptop Sessions. Time for another band to join the library of the Sessions.

The Smashing Pumpkins is today’s band, and the song is a terrific one from their album “Siamese Dream”. If you have never heard of this album or this band, go out and pick this album up. It really is something else to listen too.

Anyway, the song is “Disarm”, the more acoustically-driven song on the album. I love playing this song and always have. Billy Corgan (SP’s leadman) has a very unique lyric and guitar style, and I hope I did a good job in living up to his incredible talent.

The only minor flub - if I had to be picky - was a slightly incorrect note in the last chorus. I got a little ahead of myself, but caught it before I had to redo the take. Speaking of which, this was take 3. On take 2 I dropped my pick on the last line of the song, and led out a very loud expletive (The killer in…!*&%!!).

As always, check http://www.laptopsessions.com every day for more from Fusco-Moore Productions!

Smashing Pumpkins Acoustic Cover Songs

In 1988, Billy Corgan and James Iha got together to write some songs with the aid of a drum machine. In five short years, the album "Siamese Dream" would be released by their new band "The Smashing Pumpkins", one of the most successful alternative rock acts of all time. Their mainstream success was supported by their unique sound which combined guitars, synthesizers, and strings, among other instruments, to bring a polished, deep sound to accompany Billy Corgan's "dream world lyrics". The band had rocky relations to say the least, and they broke up in 2000. Billy Corgan tried to form another band "Zwan" but that band saw one album release and disbanded. Smashing Pumpkins reunited in 2006 minus two of their original members, and have released one album since their reunion. Jeff has performed one acoustic cover from their library, "But there will be more. I'm just nervous covering a band as popular as them.", says Jeff. Too bad! The video blog needs popular band covers! Jeff will certainly be drawing another song from their library in the near future.
