It’s that time again – thumpin’ Thursday! Today I introduce another band to the sessions. It’s the Verve Pipe with their hit song “The Freshmen” from their album “Villains”.

This album is one of my personal favorites, as it was among the albums I listened to before a cross country meet in high school. I would listen to this album front to back. “Cattle” is my favorite song off this album. The song I bring you today probably ranks 4th or 5th on the album for me. Still, it is among my favorites.

I hope you are continuing to enjoy the Laptop Sessions daily. Every day a new video, and every day a new milestone. I have crossed 25k views, and at some point yesterday the video for “Horse With No Name” became my first video to eclipse 2k views.

Tomorrow, Jim will be back with another hit. See ya then!

Verve Pipe Acoustic Rock Cover Songs and Free mp3 Downloads

The Verve Pipe is an excellent example of one of the strengths of the Laptop Sessions music video blog. While the music blog has generally been characterized by acoustic cover songs of material from such legendary songwriters as John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Bob Dylan, the depth and breadth of the video blog extends far beyond the classics. Indeed, the songwriters who contribute to this series of unplugged music videos find great pleasure in unearthing songs that have either been underappreciated or forgotten about. A great example of the latter case is an acoustic cover like Jeff Copperthite’s version of the Verve Pipe’s “The Freshmen.” This great example of their songwriting is from their 1996 album Villains, a hit album – platinum, in fact – in its own right. “The Freshmen” is their only track of new music to crack the Billboard Hot 100, but it reached the lofty position of #5! Since this time, the Verve Pipe has seemed to go unnoticed by the mainstream media, and it is doubtful that many remember that successful recording. That is where the Laptop Sessions video blog steps in. Excited to listen to indie music, both old and new music alike, the songwriters at the Sessions delight in reminding the acoustic music viewers of such great songs as “The Freshmen.”
